Are your gutters blocked?

When autumn arrives, leaves start to fall and build up in guttering systems, these leaves along with other debris such as twigs and moss can quickly block the gutter systems and impede their performance.

A blocked or obstructed gutter can lead to all sorts of problems, including mould, structural weakening, property damage and even pest infestation. Keeping a close eye on your gutter systems at your properties and keeping up regular maintenance is the key to preventing further damage. At Clearview, we recommend you arrange for an inspection and cleaning of your gutters at least twice a year, and in areas of increased foliage, we would suggest more regular maintenance.

Why is it important to clean gutters regularly?

A gutter system is essential in protecting your property from the risk of damage, a guttering system is used to help guide rainwater away from the property. However, it can only do this successfully if gutters are kept clean and free of obstructions. When gutters become obstructed with debris, this can quickly result in water seeping under the roof tiles or lining. Eventually, this will result in a stream of water that erodes the foundation line and threatens the structural integrity of your property. If your gutter does overflow it can also cause other issues such as staining of the exterior brickwork or render to your property, which could lead to further repairs and redecoration costs.

If you notice any of the following, we recommend you get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can arrange a site inspection and if required carry out remedial works:

  • Plants growing from the gutters – moss being the most common

  • Leaves and debris are visible in the gutter

  • Water is overflowing from the gutters

  • Your gutters are bending, sagging or coming away from the building

  • Your walls have stain marks, suggesting an overflow of rainwater due to a build-up of debris.

  • There are signs of pest infestation such as bugs or rodents

Clearview operates a number of gutter vac systems, which enables us to inspect and clear out gutters, debris and hoppers to our client's buildings.  The Sky Vac system uses the latest in CCTV technology to help navigate and guide our operatives from the safety of the ground by using our very own 50 feet carbon fibre poles which usually enable us to reach buildings up to 4 floors high. For larger or more complex buildings, we also have trained cherry picker operatives and qualified working at heights teams, who can carry out specialist maintenance by rope access.

The gutter vac system uses an extra strong industrial strength vacuum that is powered by our own van-mounted generators.  This access method enables us to offer this service at competitive prices to our clients.
